Chapter 10 of Luke begins with Jesus sending out the 72. The conversation centers around the release of Jesus’ followers into the world. Guest teacher Tim Svoboda beautiful articulates this challenge to be on mission.
This week we find ourselves in Luke 9 as Jesus shifts his focus and work towards the journey towards Jerusalem, the cross and resurrection. Luke is calling us as readers of this text and followers of Jesus to let go, pick up our cross and follow him to death so that we can experience new creation through the resurrection.
We have reached the point in LUKE where Jesus begins to shift his focus towards moving to the center of Jerusalem. He is working on this new declaration that the Kingdom is here and present. This week we focus on Jesus’ interactions with the demonic and facing opposition in the Kingdom
The Anti-Resolution is a move away from our fears, compulsions, resentments, and sorrows, to serve with joy and courage in the world, even when this leads us to places we would rather not go. In cultures that value social progress, personal achievement, and human development, it is only natural that steps and standards are applied to spiritual development and formation. This is 2012 for IKON, the Anti-Resolution.
We end our fall series Love Wins. with the Transfiguration of Jesus. We examine this text as the fulfillment of the promise of the New Exodus and our call to live in this new reality that Heaven is already here.
